INDUSTRIAL SERVICES

APESMA's first priority is to support its members in maximising their employment conditions and career advancement

The Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers, Australia (APESMA) is Australia's largest industrial association representing the professional and industrial interests of over 25,000 engineers, scientists, veterinarians, surveyors, information technology professionals, pharmacists, architects, managers and transport professionals.

APESMA members can contact us about:

For more information about the Association, visit the About APESMA section of the website.

Awards and Enterprise Agreements

Although many individuals and workplaces negotiate different rates of pay and conditions, APESMA has made sure that no matter what profession, there is a set of basic salary levels and conditions to reflect the member's professional standing. This is done through the safety net of industrial awards and enterprise agreements APESMA has negotiated for the collective benefit of members.

APESMA looks after more than 100 awards, working on members' behalf in State and Federal Industrial Commissions. These awards specify entitlements covering:

Individual contracts and Workplace Agreements

Individual members often need advice, and in some cases, representation on industrial, career and professional issues.

APESMA can give members the information and advice needed to negotiate their own salary package and employment conditions with full confidence. Alternatively, APESMA can provide expert representation to ensure the best possible outcome.

The Association's industrial staff know and understand the needs and aspirations of professionals and can bring their skills and experience to bear in assisting members with employment issues.

Employment contracts

APESMA's industrial staff can provide members with advice on employment contracts, whether they are working as an employee or as a contractor or consultant.

For more information, see the "Guide to Contract Employment" in the Members Only section of the APESMA website.

Individual Contract Builder

Following changes to the nation’s industrial relations legislation, APESMA recognises that more members may be in the position of negotiating an individual employment contract for the first time – and will need assistance and advice.

The Individual Contract Builder (members only) has been prepared as a resource for members to assist in their negotiation of such an agreement with an employer. Such agreements should detail the specific entitlements and conditions that will apply during the period of the contract.

Salaries for professionals

Many APESMA members have professional qualifications, others are recognised as professionals by the experience and training they have. APESMA believes that employees should be rewarded on the basis of the professional skill and judgement they bring to their work and the established professional rates in its awards and industrial agreements reflect this.

Not only can we always give members the most up-to-date accurate information on salaries and employment conditions, we also have our finger on the pulse of the latest remuneration trends in the field.

For more information, visit the Surveys page of the APESMA website.

Overseas employment

APESMA can provide members working overseas with advice on employment contracts, salaries and/or contract rates, working conditions, taxation and other issues relating to overseas placement.

For more information, see the "Living and Working Overseas Guide" in the Members Only section of the APESMA website.

Providing Special Representation

Australian Industrial Relations Commission

The Association's industrial staff are skilled negotiators and advocates and are able to represent members before the Australian Industrial Relations Commission, State Industrial Commissions, Appeal Boards, Dispute Committees and Grievance Panels. They can also assist members in direct negotiations with their employer where necessary.

Unfair treatment

Members who experience unfair treatment, be it discrimination, harassment or something else, can be reassured that APESMA is there to provide confidential advice and support.

Redundancy/termination & workplace change

When it comes to unfair dismissal and redundancies or periods of workplace change, APESMA's expert staff can support members with advice on entitlements and compensation, and represent them in negotiations with their employer.  Employment law is a complex area, and members need to have access to expert advice and assistance when required.

When necessary, the Association will represent members with unfair dismissal or unfair treatment claims at the relevant courts and tribunals.

Whether you are seeking information on classification levels, salaries or contract rates, require representation in the event of a dismissal or redundancy, or want help with an employment contract, APESMA can assist you.
