    Science meets Parliament 2010

Share your views on biodiversity in Canberra

APESMA invites our Young Professional members from any technology-based profession to apply for the "Science meets Parliament 2010" Scholarship. The winner will have the opportunity to share their ideas on biodiversity with parliamentarians and experienced technology professionals in Canberra this March, as part of this year's Science meets Parliament Conference.

The scholarship covers the cost of registration fees, travel, accommodation and meals whilst attending the conference. Science meets Parliament will take place in Canberra on 9-10 March this year.

The event is organised by the Federation of Australian Scientific and Technological Societies (FASTS). An APESMA Young Professional member will have the opportunity to formally share their ideas on biodiversity, climate change and other issues with the science and technology community and government representatives.

To enter:

Write a 1,000 word (max.) article that addresses the following question:

"How important is the contribution of science and technology to the preservation of biodiversity?"
Entries must be received by close of business 18 February 2010. Entrants must be financial members of APESMA

Include a brief CV, making sure you include your full contact details and APESMA membership number

    APESMA Professional Development Scholarship 2009/2010

In association with Chifley Business School, APESMA offers a range of professional development opportunities to meet the needs of members throughout the changing stages of their careers. These scholarships recognise and reward members who are making a real difference in their workplace, professional field or community.

2009/2010 scholarships include the full course fees for the following training courses:

1. Short Course Scholarship

This is the ideal training ground for a young professional in the early stages of their career. Short courses provide skills training that give professionals a head start.

This scholarship comprises the full course fees for three, two-day short courses with Chifley Business School. The available short courses are:

Advanced Project Management
Asset Management
Business Risk
Change Management
Contract Management
Developing Leaders in the Workplace
Document Writing Skills
Effective People Skills
Finance for Non-Financial People
Managing Consultants and Contractors
Project Management
Risk Management
Strategic Planning and Implementation

Valued at $2,490

This scholarship will be awarded to one APESMA member who best fulfils the assessment criteria (detailed below).

Note: Short courses are held in the city centres of Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney cost of transport is not included in scholarship). 2. Certificate IV Frontline Management Scholarship

For a professional with at least one year experience in a supervisory role, and with responsibility for at least one team member, this is the ideal course to learn the essential skills needed to manage teams effectively.

This scholarship will be awarded to one APESMA member who best fulfils the assessment criteria (detailed below).

This course is delivered online, and takes 18 months to complete.

3. Diploma of Management Scholarship

For a professional with three or more years experience in a supervisory or management role this course will develop advanced skills and knowledge through a nationally recognised qualification that will teach you to confidently monitor, control and successfully manage projects.

This course comprises 8 units of the 12 that complete a MBA.

This Scholarship will be awarded to one APESMA member who best fulfils the assessment criteria (detailed below).

This course is delivered online, and takes two years to complete.

Eligibility Deadline Assessment criteria Submit your application
All applicants must be financial members of APESMA.
All applicants must meet Chifley Business School eligibility requirements for the Scholarship Award they nominate themselves for (eligibility requirements available at www.chifley.edu.au).
Applicants can only nominate themselves for one of the above awards.
Application form must be received no later than Friday 6 November 2009.
Winners will be announced late November. All applicants will be contacted.
Primary – Write a brief statement letting us know how you have “made a difference” in your workplace, professional field or to the community. To make a difference you must be extending beyond the scope of the usual activities associated with your professional role.
Secondary – The winners will also be active and “making a difference” within APESMA.
Attach a copy of your CV to your statement to demonstrate your eligibility for the prize.

    Connect Partnership Professional Development Scholarship

Connect is special interest group established by APESMA for self employed professionals and contractors.

The Partnership Professional Development Scholarship awards a Connect member $500 to contribute towards the course fee of any structured training program. This scholarship aims to assist Connect members develop a comprehensive and up-to-date portfolio of transferable skills in the absence of a sponsoring employer. It is part of APESMA’s commitment to supporting independent contractors and consultants in their career development.
