APESMA PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS AT QANTAS

Professional Engineers at Qantas take great pride in the critical role they play in maintaining the safe and efficient operation of the airline’s fleet.

In negotiating a new Professional Engineers (Qantas Airways Limited) Enterprise Agreement, APESMA Qantas Professional Engineer members are seeking professional recognition, appropriate levels of professional development, provisions to ensure genuine fatigue management and improvements to other employment conditions.

Qantas Professional Engineers take unprecedented action

For the first time in Qantas’ history, APESMA Professional Engineer members at Qantas are taking lawful and protected industrial action. Negotiations for a new enterprise agreement have been continuing for almost 12 months. In late 2009, 99.2% voted to support taking industrial action in an overwhelming show of their frustration with the lack of progress of the enterprise bargaining and Qantas’ refusal to negotiate on the key issues.

APESMA members at Qantas care about the critical work they do for the airline and have been left with little choice but to take industrial action due to Qantas' refusal to discuss key issues such as fatigue. This industrial action is continuing in 2010.

APESMA is calling on Qantas to recognize the issues facing its Professional Engineering workforce with a fair and equitable EBA outcome.

APESMA at Qantas - Background

The Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers Australia (APESMA) has proudly represented the interests of professional employees working at Qantas for many years.

APESMA Qantas members are represented by APESMA staff and elected APESMA Qantas Group Committee members. Our role includes the negotiation of the terms and conditions of employment of Qantas Professional Engineers, through the Professional Engineers (Qantas Airways Limited) Enterprise Agreement.

APESMA at Qantas also enables members (which include Professional Engineers and Senior Technical Managers) to:

Join together to raise issues and influence matters that arise at work;
Access confidential individual advice and assistance on employment matters;
Access advice, information and expertise about salaries and remuneration.
