APESMA Representing Scientists
Scientists play a key role in the prosperity and advancement of Australia. For over 40 years APESMA have been the professional association representing the employment, economic and social interests of our members and the wider community of scientists.
With strength in numbers and access to information and resources, we are able to work hard towards bringing about positive change in the salaries and conditions of our members. This is particularly important in the current industrial relations climate.
Sectors in which our member scientists are employed include:
APESMA’s Scientists were originally known as the Association of Professional Scientists of Australia, formed in 1960. A merger with the Association of Professional Engineers, Australia, took place in 1991.
Join with us today and play your part in advancing the science community and ensuring that science is an attractive career for future generations.

A large number of scientists in the private sector are employed on individual contracts of employment. The Association is skilled in advising members what should be contained in these contracts and how better conditions can be negotiated.
|
Part of the advice the Association provides to members on contracts of employment is information on what should be the appropriate salary. The rates contained in awards are minimums only and many scientists are paid above the award, often on the basis of the market. APESMA conducts an annual comprehensive survey of professional scientists' salaries – the results of which are published as the APESMA / FASTS Professional Scientist Remuneration Survey Report. With this information to hand, individuals can place themselves exactly in their profession, and can negotiate from a much more knowledgeable and powerful position. |
