Effective 1 January, 2010 the National Employment Standards are set out in detail at http://www.fairwork.gov.au/
In summary, the Standards include:
- maximum weekly hours of work (38 hours for a full-time employee) with the employer able to request that the employee work reasonable additional hours
- the right for parents to request flexible working arrangements
- parental leave and related entitlements subject to completion of 12 months continuous service with the employer
- annual leave – 4 weeks annual leave per year of service (5 weeks for shift workers)
- personal / carer's leave and compassionate leave – minimum of 10 days personal/carers leave, 2 days of paid compassionate leave and 2 days unpaid carer's leave
- community service leave including jury service
- long service leave
- public holidays
- notice of termination and redundancy pay
a 'Fair Work Information Statement' for all employees that make clear their rights and entitlements under the new system.
